Chloe
Near the bottom of the About page is a mention of my using of Leica 35mm cameras and a bit about why I use them. I first began, earlier this year, to re-familiarize myself with them, walking around my urban neighborhood. I used them in the 70’s, but had forgotten the fine mechanics of Leica cameras and the quality of the optics. The Va Museum of Fine Arts is 4 - 5 blocks from the house, and moving through it’s grounds is a normal part of my walking route. Chloe is a 24-foot tall sculpture by the Spanish Artist Jaume Plensa, commissioned by the VMFA, and installed in 2017. A year or so ago, the museum conserved Chloe restoring the beautiful pure white patina she now has. I realized that the delicate tonal values on her surfaces were a perfect model for me to determine optimum film speed and development schemes. Over time, I realized that I was actually creating a new body of work, still in process.
